PHANTOM COVERT OPS: Colonel Watts Briefing

Simon Watts started his military career in the marines in 1961. Quickly distinguishing himself for his bravery, selflessness and lethal precision, he was identified by superiors and drafted into the elite Phantom Ops unit.
--------
in 1966 on the Northern Coast of the Black Sea, Watts and the rest of a 9 man unit were first on the ground as a joint NATO operation. After falling victim to a strategic ploy, Watts witnessed his commander and two of his fellow men slain at the hands of General Zhurov, an equally decorated man of war. Under fire, wounded and determined, Watts calls in an airstrike on his own location, with fatal consequence for both sides. Only a few Phantom operatives make it out alive with Zhurov thought to be dead.
---------
25 years later, Watts finds himself in command and returning to the forsaken location that still haunts him today. With his warnings, caution and training, strengthened by his intimate knowledge of the base’s layout, Watts guides you through your mission to finish what he started.

Colonel Watts is introduced early on via an interactive briefing.

Composing the layout and performance in a way that withstands players breaking the scene or immersion was a key consideration.

Colonel Watts uses the same character body design and set up as the player character, with full body awareness.

Watts is also a little nod to our own equally suave Studio Creative Director, Steven Watt.

The intro was always intended to set the 1:1, non-abstracted sense of immersion and interaction.

A few methods of deployment were explored before we submerged the helicopter to combine deployment and the paddle tutorial.
